Activities in Madagascar

Activities of the Royal Commission of Luxembourg in Madagascar

The Delegation in Luxembourg of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George, coordinated by the Royal Commission of Italy is promoting the building of a small chapel to be named after St Georges, in the Catholic Mission of Ranohira, in Madagascar.

The choice of this Mission has been made because one of the members of the Delegation in Luxembourg, Ms Violaine Silvestro von Kamecke, dame of merit, has spent there about two years. Thanking to many other initiatives in support to the Mission, several chapels, churches and schools have already been built in the past years (see annexed pictures).

On October 4th, 2009 the newly built chapel of St George, in Sakameloka, close to the the Catholic Mission of Ranohira, in Madagascar, has been officially inaugurated by the general vicar of the local diocese (as the bishop was absent due to a pastoral duty in the capital). The church has been built with the sponsorship of the Delegation in Luxembourg of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George, coordinated by the Royal Commission of Italy. The Order's support has been acknowledged by a memorial stone posed next to the main entrance of the church, on the main facade.

The ceremony of inauguration has seen the broad presence of the local catholic community. Also 8 confirmations have been celebrated the same day. Sakameloka is a fastly growing village, that is increasing in size and importance as it attracts workers for the close mine of sapphires. The presence of a church there, thus, became most needed.

Whoever is interested in contacting the Delegation in Luxembourg about this initiative may do so by using the attached email.
