19/03/2010 (Rome) Archbishop Joseph Augustine Di Noia, Secretary of the Congregation of Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, promoted to Grand Cross of Merit

Archbishop Joseph Augustine Di Noia, Titular Archbishop of Oregon City, Oregon, a Dominican priest and influential theologian, was recently appointed by Pope Benedict XVI as Secretary of the Congregation of Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, a powerful curial office in Rome.

Archbishop Di Noia, was born in New York City in 1943 and ordained a priest in 1970. He received his licentiate in theology at the Dominican House of Studies, and holds a doctorate in philosophy from YaleUniversity. He was a professor of theology at the Dominican House of Studies, near CatholicUniversity, for two decades before serving as an assistant in the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith under then-Cardinal Ratzinger for several years. In his current position, he will assist Cardinal Antonio Caņizares Llovera, prefect of the Congregation of Divine Worship, in overseeing the Catholic liturgy, in particular the implementation of the new form of the English Missal.

Archbishop Di Noia, a member of the Constantinian Order since June, 2003, was recently promoted to the rank of Knight Grand Cross of Merit by appointment of the Grandmaster, His Royal Highness the Infante of Spain Don Carlos of Bourbon-Two Sicilies and Bourbon Parma, Duke of Calabria, Count of Casserta.

Archbishop Di Noia was recently presented with his new insignia in Rome on 19 February by His Excellency, Professor Dr. Joseph H. Hagan, President of the North American Association of the Order, chairman of the board of John Cabot University in Rome, Gentleman of His Holiness.
