H.E. Dom Fernando Arêas Rifan, Bishop Apostolic Administrator of the Personal Apostolic Administration of Saint John Mary Vianney in the Diocese of Campos, Brazil and Titular Bishop of Cedamusa appointed Grand Cross of Merit

H.E. Dom Fernando Arêas Rifan, Bishop Apostolic Administrator of the Personal Apostolic Administration of Saint John Mary Vianney in the Diocese of Campos, Brazil and Titular Bishop of Cedamusa has been appointed Grand Cross of Merit of the Constantinian Order.

Dom Fernando Arêas Rifan was born in the in São Fidélis, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in the Diocese of Campos on 25 October 1950. He was admitted to the Diocesan Minor Seminary of Immaculate Mary at the age of twelve and attended from 1963 to 1967. He attended the Diocesan Seminary from 1968 to 1974 where he studied Philosophy and Theology.

He has a command of Latin, French, English, Italian and Spanish. He was Ordained on 8 December 1974 at the Cathedral Basilica of the Most Holy Saviour in Campos at the age of 24 by Msgr. Antônio de Castro Mayer, Diocesan Bishop.

On 28 June 2002, Pope John Paul II appointed him Titular Bishop of Cedamusa and named him coadjutor Bishop of the Personal Apostolic Administration Saint John Mary Vianney. After the death of Bishop Licí­nio Rangel on 16 December 2002, Bishop Rifan succeeded him as the Apostolic Administrator.

Apart the function of the General Vicar and Member of the Governing Council of the Personal Apostolic Administration Saint John Mary Vianney, His Excellency is also Pastor of the Personal Parish of the Immaculate Heart of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, Principal of Três Pastorinhos School, both in Campos, State of Rio de Janeiro and the Theology Professor at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception, of the Personal Apostolic Administration Saint John Mary Vianney
